We booked through Airbnb, listed there as the Alexander, at the last minute after our flight home was canceled. The staff were courteous and helpful, and the host communicated well. We got a very good price, but the photos didn’t reflect the facility’s condition. The rooms were dirty and worn out. Towels were mismatched and had large beige stains, and there were stains on the bed and part of the sectional couch. The walls had mold, and our balcony faced an abandoned lot where junk was stored. Apparently stray dogs hang out there at night. The entry doors are aluminum storefront doors with blackout plastic over the glass, but light still gets in. The mattress sagged badly, like one in grandma’s spare room, and the shower was just a low-pressure misting head. Breakfast was included. The waitress was friendly but didn’t speak English. I’m not sure whether there was a menu, but we got Fruit Loops, coffee, and a bologna sandwich. There are plunge pools on the roof, though we didn’t use them. The place is near 5th, but there isn’t much right next door. There are two sides to the hotel: one uses card fobs, the other still has traditional keyed cylinder locks. I’d suggest paying a little more for somewhere better, or looking closely at the photos posted with this review first.

The shower flooded the room, and when I went to ask for help, the key card they’d given me wouldn’t let me back in. Check-in time was listed incorrectly, and even when the stated time came, the room wasn’t ready. They don’t take card payments, yet someone tried to get me to give my card details over the phone. I left. From the other reviews, it seems I got off easy. Avoid this place.

The room was large, with a nice balcony, and the shower worked well. Service staff did their best, but the stay wasn’t great. The pool water was green and there wasn’t enough water in it. Breakfast didn’t start until almost 11, and it was Frosted Flakes and ham sandwiches, better than nothing, I guess. Also, Google Maps puts the property in the wrong place. The entrance is between 10th Avenue and 5 Avenue, not between 10th and 15th on 42 Street.

Nice place...

Two pools, both dirty and poorly lit, and neither even a meter deep. The doorknobs were falling off, there was no room service, and one room had no hot water. The little terrace in the rooms looks onto the bathroom, so there’s no privacy. They say there are quiet hours and no smoking, but we couldn’t sleep for two nights because of other guests, and no one ever called them out. The WORST place to book. Poor service.
