Hotel El Campanario

It's a nice hotel if you want a basic room without a kitchen and don't mind the church bells. The place was clean and the price was okay, and staying here did spare us the loud music downtown. But we ran into several problems. For two days in a row, our towels disappeared and weren't replaced until we insisted. There was no clear explanation, just a confused excuse. I'd tell the office not to do the daily cleaning or take your towels. One of mine came back with a hair from my friend next door, so they may have mixed up our used towels. The Wi-Fi was also unreliable, cutting in and out at random; some days it didn't work at all. Don't count on it if you need to work or plan a trip. We had booked two identical rooms, but one had a king bed and a twin while the other had only a king. No one explained the difference. Neither room had a kitchenette, despite the room pictures showing one and the descriptions suggesting that it might be included. Apparently the kitchen varies with the price, but that's not explained. When we asked, we got mumbling rather than a clear answer. The hotel also advertises a deal with a nearby beach club, but the club had supposedly 'closed all of a sudden, by surprise' and the offer was still on the website. Church bells woke us every day, not just Sundays, and on Sundays they rang all day. Even so, I preferred that to the downtown music we'd hoped to avoid.

I've stayed here four times over the past ten years and keep coming back. It's good value, the rooms are simple and clean, and pretty much everything is within walking distance.

I paid $420 for eight nights here. The beach is just five blocks away, Coco Bongo is one block away, and the city walk with its shops and restaurants is two blocks away.

We keep coming back because everyone is friendly and treats us fairly. It’s also close to everything, and we love staying here.
