I keep coming back to Kika Studios because the hosts are warm, attentive, and go out of their way to make the stay good. The team is kind, quick to respond, and clearly cares. As a light sleeper, I sleep well there and rarely wake up. There’s a dog, a road, and occasional power cuts, but that’s part of being in the Caribbean and in the middle of a lively city. Playa del Carmen has grown, and the power tends to come back faster here than in most places around 5th Avenue. If you want a five-star resort, there are plenty nearby for triple the price. For a cozy, welcoming, authentic stay with a vibrant city feel, Kika Studios is a great choice.

I’ve stayed here a few times and it’s always been a good experience. It feels cozy and pleasant, almost like home. There’s a nice terrace and sitting area, clean rooms, and a fully equipped kitchen. The owner is professional and pleasant, and responds quickly when you need something. It’s right in the heart of the city and affordable. I’d recommend it for a future stay.

The apartment is well located, about 5-10 minutes from everything you need, and I was welcomed nicely. The kitchen is well equipped, except there’s no salt, pepper, coffee, water, or oil. The terrace is pleasant, but shady most of the time, so it’s not the place if you want to sunbathe. The pool looks much bigger in pictures. It’s closer to a large jacuzzi, with no room to swim, just get wet. I planned to stay a month for work and vacation, but left after two weeks. Before booking, I asked if it was quiet at night because I’m very sensitive to noise, and was told it was. That was an absolute lie. The neighbors’ dogs bark all night, and the soccer field beside the building is constantly busy, with very loud people. Even with earphones, I couldn’t sleep. There are only two towels, none for the beach, and I wasn’t given more when I asked. The Wi-Fi is good for work, but the electricity went out often, and there’s no emergency generator, so I had to use my phone hotspot. Shower pressure was ridiculous. With long hair, rinsing out conditioner could take an hour. I’ve had much better apartment stays in Mexico and wouldn’t come back. If you don’t care about having time to relax, this might suit you.

I stayed at Kika Studios for ten months and loved it. The studios are simple and cozy, and Marco and Raffaela are outstanding landlords. The Wi-Fi is excellent, so I often took Zoom meetings on the terrace. When my clients saw the place, they all wanted to come to Playa. I’ve recommended it to several friends, and two have stayed there too. It’s great value in a nice neighborhood, close to downtown but not too close. I definitely recommend it.

The location is the big plus. It’s close to ADO, the beach, shops, and, most importantly, the lovely locals. They cheered us on for recycling, and one man said we cared about their country. That was really nice. He might have been homeless, too, but he cared. The studio isn’t modern, so bring your own tissues, cleaning supplies, washcloths, and towels. I didn’t like the gate, the first floor, or the sheer curtains. Still, I think it’s worth it for the location. We never felt in danger, even though there were gates. Definitely check out the neighborhood and learn your way around.
