La Playa Condo

We got a lot for the price: our room had a proper kitchen with a fridge, toaster, and blender, plus a living room with a pullout bed and a bedroom with very cold air conditioning. The hotel and pool aren’t fancy, and cleanliness could be better, though it was bearable. The staff were few in number but friendly and helpful from the moment we arrived. From the outside, we weren’t sure what to expect. The location was great, just a three-minute walk to the livelier start of Fifth Avenue. If you want an affordable room with the things you need, I’d recommend it. We couldn’t ask for more at that price and location.

I’m the kind of traveler who explores all day and just needs somewhere to come back to at night, and this worked perfectly. It’s a budget place with no frills, but the staff were really friendly. They didn’t even seem to mind me trying out my broken Spanish with them. The rooftop pools are a nice extra and feel fairly private. Restaurants downtown and the beaches are within walking distance.

The price for what you get is really good. I’m back for a second stay, and the rooms are spacious and very clean, with a full kitchenette in each one. There are pools and towels, and it’s close to the nice areas. The place has a lot of potential. A few small touches to the service or decor could make it even better.

The staff were excellent, very helpful and good to deal with. The rest of the place was gross. They hand you a list of about ten WiFi networks, but only one ever showed up, and its signal was about as weak as one bar on a phone. Basically, there’s no WiFi. The pools were all over the place: one was clean, though its area only gets about an hour of sun a day and is shaded the rest of the time; two were halfway clean; and one was disgustingly filthy. They gave me just one key, even though getting to my room and the different pools meant going through three doors that needed three separate keys. Don’t stay here. Ever.
