Mahekal Beach Front Resort & Spa

The staff were the best part of our stay. Ruben, Manuel, Enrique, Ishmael, and Braian took care of everything and were amazing. The resort is tropical, with lush, well-kept grounds and comfortable, unique rooms. It's just steps from 5th Avenue and all the action, yet very quiet and relaxing. The food was superb with lots of choices. Thank you for looking after us so well, we'll definitely see you again.

Mahekal feels like a home away from home, a peaceful, welcoming place with heart. Between the beautiful ocean views, delicious food, sanctuary-like atmosphere, and wild animals, it feels made for sharing with the people you love. The team made the stay unforgettable. Mr. Edwin gave us the warmest welcome at the front gate, Mr. Roberto shared so much about the property, and Mr. Enrique paired wine perfectly with every meal. Brian and Roberto brought every dish from the kitchen with care, and Fernanda made the experience especially memorable in so many ways. We loved Mahekal enough to choose it for our wedding in December 2026. We already know we'll come back with family and friends for years. If you're after a resort that feels peaceful, welcoming, and full of heart, Mahekal is an experience.

The gardens were beautiful and well cared for, and most of the resort staff were pleasant, polite, and helpful. Our half-board meals were good with decent choice, and the restaurant had a lovely sunrise view over the pool. Service there varied, though, and the unspoken expectation to tip at every meal felt unpleasant and soured the experience. Mahekal's beachfront location was lovely, with soft white sand, though the beach is narrow and has quite a bit of vegetation such as seaweed. Our upgraded room was spacious but at the very back of the resort, so it meant lots of walking and was poorly signposted. There was loud noise from an outdoor function next door on our first night, and the room smelled bad enough that staff had to deodorise it.

We had a nice room in a great spot near the sea and pool, and the rest of the staff were friendly and always greeted us. But finding a bed by a pool or on the beach was already hard, and during our week most of them were removed for events and weddings. It became even tougher to find a place at the nearest and nicest pool, and they even shut the bar on us. They double-book the space, then send regular paying guests to smaller, remote, crowded pools in the shade. We felt like second choice, and management ignored our complaints. My advice is not to book here. Find somewhere that values its regular guests.
