Meliora By Bunik

The bathroom was the biggest letdown for me. The pressure was weak and the water only lukewarm, and I need hot water and a strong shower to enjoy it. Our refrigerator also made a loud, annoying noise, so we unplugged it every night to sleep. Still, meliora by bunik has a lovely atmosphere and a perfect spot in the city. It's central but away from the chaotic noise, near a small square where local celebrations happen. We happened to catch a festival fiesta of tamales, which was a lovely cultural highlight. The main pedestrian shopping street is close, and the beaches are about a 20-minute walk. A great choice for location, though the room facilities could use improvement.

The maids were really friendly, and the room was nice in a great location. But the shower barely put out any water, and when I reported it, nothing was done. The front desk staff seemed like they didn't want to help or even talk. Better front desk service and repaired showers would make this five stars.

From arrival onward, this was a very disappointing stay. The glass doors felt unsafe, and the customer service was poor. The owner got upset because we checked out twenty minutes late, demanded another twenty dollars, then followed us out even after we explained. It felt aggressive and unprofessional. The room was also in unacceptable condition: burn marks and a damp stain on the sofa, no conditioner, air conditioning that didn't work, and used toilet paper when we arrived. It showed a lack of cleanliness, professionalism, and basic hospitality.

I've stayed at different kinds of hotels in Playa del Carmen before, so I had comparisons. At first glance, this one seemed worthy of positive comments: the service looked good and the staff seemed friendly. Then, after the room was cleaned, a personal item went missing from my suitcase. I was upset and felt offended. I noticed something was wrong right away because the things in my open suitcase weren't arranged the way they had been. The receptionist tried to help by showing me the surveillance footage, but that didn't resolve it. The hotel representatives didn't apologize or try to investigate the situation. This is the first time in my life as a tourist that a personal item has disappeared from my suitcase after cleaning. I hope management reads this and takes steps to choose the right staff.
