My family and I went to the main restaurant for dinner around 9:45 pm, though it was due to close at 10:30 pm. Because I can't have gluten or dairy, I was told there was nothing I could eat. They had a “special menu,” but everything was apparently made ahead, and staff wouldn't prepare even a simple dish that met basic dietary needs. They said I had to order a full day in advance. So I could sit there, but not actually have dinner. After 26 years as members, it's sad to see the standards drop this much. It felt like closing and doing the bare minimum mattered more than taking care of guests, which is shocking for a place that claims to offer quality service. The chef, Luis, is part of how the restaurant is being represented, and that was disappointing too. I definitely wouldn't recommend it. They seem to care about convenience, not their guests.

The rooms are spacious and nice, housekeeping does a great job, and the staff are generally friendly. It's a short walk to Playa del Carmen, and I'd still probably come back to Sunset Fishermen. The place is good, just not like it was 20 years ago. Some things have been discontinued, and other things are done differently now. It feels expensive for what you get. Seaweed washes up on the beach every day and builds up slowly, spoiling the ocean view and experience. They could improve things by clearing it more automatically. For the accommodation, I'd call Fishermen a solid 3 star.

We were there with four children under 10, and the staff refused to give us drinking water. The water had been coming from the front desk, but when I went to ask for a refill, they said there'd been a complaint and we couldn't have any more. The manager was off that day, so there was no way to speak with him. Earlier, my paper bracelet had dissolved after a whole day in the water. The manager told me I wouldn't get bar service without one, so I said I'd get a replacement and did. At the restaurant, they ask for tips despite terrible service and warm beers. Terrible management. Never again.

The resort looks beautiful, and the staff are wonderful. Everyone is friendly and makes sure we have what we need.

I've been coming here for 13 years, but the manager treated us like strangers. We only wanted to say hi to our friends at the resort and get a day pass. The supervisor was very rude and should be ashamed.
