The Magic Hotel

Everything was super clean, the pool was clean too, and the hot water and water pressure were excellent. The beds are very firm. Breakfast was good, with chilaquiles, scrambled eggs, refried beans, salsas, sweet breads, regular bread for toast, cereal, yogurt, and fruit. Coffee, tea, and Expresso cost 40 pesos extra. The room felt cold when we walked in, though you can adjust the temperature once you figure out the controls. The bedding is pretty thin, but you can ask for an extra blanket. You can also borrow an iron from the desk with a small deposit. Really good value.

The hotel is nice and not too expensive, with hot water in the shower and free breakfast. The mattresses are hard, which might actually help if you have back pain. There’s no iron or minibar. I recommend it.

The rooms are nice, but the WiFi signal is poor, and there’s no complimentary bottled water in the room. You also have to leave a deposit to borrow an iron and board. After I reviewed the hotel, they wouldn’t acknowledge that bottled water could be provided or address the weak WiFi, which needs an extender or a separate modem on that floor. That left me disappointed. Some hotels handle things better.

The food was tasty and good value, but there wasn’t much local cuisine, with most dishes based on spaghetti, lasagna, or baguettes. Breakfast was brilliant, much like continental Europe, with cereal, pastries, and fresh fruit. Staff were extremely friendly, and the front desk spoke very good English. The area was clean and quiet, about a 20 minute walk or 3 minute taxi ride to 5th avenue, with its tourist spots, bars, and nightclubs. The beachfront was about 25 minutes on foot, or a 3 minute ride plus a 1 minute walk.
