The location is great, right in the middle of Puebla's historic downtown, and the front desk team were helpful and pleasant every time. But the room was tiny even though we'd asked for a deluxe king room, and I don't understand the four-star rating. The bathroom sink sat in the room between the entry door and bed, making the layout awkward. There was no hair dryer or mini fridge. We don't drink coffee, but noticed dust on the coffee maker and glasses. There were little stains all over the wall behind the desk and drawers, dirt built up in the shower door track, and floor corners that hadn't been scrubbed in a while. A huge dead mosquito stayed stuck on the bright white ceiling the whole time. The spa felt very basic, almost unprofessional, and getting there meant going out onto the street and around the corner. When we arrived, the woman at the front desk said there were no services because the only female masseuse was sick, and that I obviously wouldn't want a male one. That made me uncomfortable and left me wondering whether the staff could serve clients professionally regardless of gender. If you want a safe hotel in a great location, this could work. Just don't expect a four-star place to sleep.

We got a lovely view of a beautiful church from our window. The rooms were clean, the beds comfortable, and the shower hot with good pressure. We thought it was great value for money.

At check-out, they charged me for a small amount of makeup residue on a towel, even though everything had seemed fine before then. I also heard that a family was charged for blood on the bedsheets after someone cut her elbow. Be careful.

The staff were welcoming and friendly, and many places near the zocalo were an easy walk away, including “La Calle de Los Dulces”, “El Zocalo”, el primer mercado, and “La Calle de Los Sapos”. There were several problems, though. A souvenir bag with locally bought artisan jewelry and a Frida Kahlo book went “mysteriously” missing. We searched the whole room without finding them. Staff checked before we left and said only a charger had been left behind, so we know nothing else was left in the room. Our first-floor bathroom smelled like sewer the entire stay and made the room smell too. Even after we asked several times, the bedding was never changed after a chocolate incident. The paid hotel “American” breakfast was very limited, wasn't a buffet, and repeated the same three categories of items. By day three, we were tired of it, and even sweet bread cost extra. During the holiday, the restaurant was badly overwhelmed, with waits of 50-60 min and angry customers screaming and cursing. They gave us only one key, which seemed to stop working every night, so we had to go downstairs to reset it. We could hear everything happening in the street, as well as staff laughing at 7am.
