Ikonik Hotel Puebla

There isn't hotel parking on site, so you have to pay extra to park. With the room rates, I would've expected that to be included. The morning staff were friendlier than the afternoon and night staff, who weren't very welcoming.

Once we got into the room, there was a horrible smell, and one of the workers helped disinfect it. We stayed the night after sorting out the billing issue, but check-in was a mess. I booked directly on the hotel's website, yet they tried to charge us another 30%. The night manager said we should contact Booking, then claimed, "we don't have a website" when I explained how I'd booked. She told us, "if you don't like it you can leave," and when we said we'd stay until we figured it out, she told her coworkers to call the police. The night manager showed no customer service skills and seemed not to know the hotel she manages. Upper management should take another look at hiring and training.

We could leave the car and walk to the bars, since the hotel is very close to the city center. The room had a cozy feel, a really comfortable bed, and two showers. Staff were nice, though check-in took a little longer because only one person was handling it.

A short walk through interesting streets gets you to the Zocolo in about ten minutes. Rooms facing the street can be a little noisy, but the city view is great. The room was comfortable, with good climate control and a nice bed. Design-wise, the old building and newer architecture fit together beautifully. It's minimalist, with limited storage, and we only had one coffee cup until we asked, but it was still a lovely hotel.
