I picked this hotel as a solo American woman because it was near a no-frills beach and the ADO bus station, both about a five-minute walk away. Everyone was really nice. The WiFi was available, though not very strong, and most staff knew little or no English. There's enough connection for Google Translate if you don't speak Spanish. After 8ish pm, you'll need a door code to get in, since no agents are there 24/7. My room had a lovely ocean view and gorgeous sunrises, plus AC and hot water. Storage was limited, and shampoo and soap were provided, but no hair conditioner. There's a small pool, free hot and cold water, and a great rooftop terrace for sunrise or sunset and relaxing. Playa Principal is about a five-minute walk. It's a working fishing beach with local families and small boat fishermen. Try the “vela” (sailfish) at a cevicheria if it's available. Walk down the steps toward the beach to reach the main beach road, which closes in the evening for a great night market. A very nice, huge supermarket is about a four-minute walk uphill from the hotel. I went in November, when the dry season begins. It's a lovely time to visit, though a little pricier, partly because a major federal holiday brings a long weekend and many events during the week of Nov. 20th. It's also the start of high tourism season and the end of the daily rain showers. The foliage is still lush green in November, though later many plants stop producing chlorophyll and turn brown to conserve water through the six dry months. Like a lot of hotels, you may be able to book the first night online and negotiate a cash rate after you arrive, depending on availability. Pics: supermarket, room view, cute decor in open air hallway, local food at Playa Principal, hammock on balcony included with the room, Playa Zicatela beach sunset is walking distance.

We stayed in the Diamante room and had a great view of the ocean and pool. This small hotel feels modest yet upscale, with a homey quality you don't get from the big hotels. It was a short walk to the beach, restaurants, and a market. The cute pool and peaceful atmosphere make it a good fit for families and adults looking for a quiet, chill stay. I loved hearing the singing from the church across the street during worship services. It felt like a blessing. The service manager was very helpful and handled any requests or needs I had. She also arranged the tours we took: bioluminescence, a dolphin tour, and a turtle release.

The owner was incredibly friendly and welcoming, like checking into a friend's place. The room was clean, colourful, and simple, with all the essentials, so I thought the price was reasonable. I'm a light sleeper, and the church bells did wake me at 6.30am. They kept ringing every 15 minutes until 7am, but after that I slept without much trouble. The location is close enough to the main strip that you can hear it from the balcony, but with the door closed you don't hear it. The pool was clean and the hammocks were a nice spot to unwind in the evening.

An excellent view of the bay, good wifi for streaming television, and a clean property make this a great small hotel. It's right in front of a Catholic Church, which is a plus if you go to Mass. The pool is small, but that wasn't an issue. It's an adult-only hotel, no kids. There's a good restaurant a short walk up the hill, which I've already reviewed. I parked my Ram2500 crew cab on the street by the front door. It's a great, safe location for coming and going, and there's also parking in a gated yard at the back. The building is gated with a passcode, and security was excellent. Did I mention the terrace?

Great location, a wonderful view, and a swimming pool. The place was clean and felt safe. Best place to stay.
