I loved the outdoor lounging spots overlooking the palm trees, especially for watching the sunset colours. There's a small kitchen and a cute black cat who lives here. The hostel is quirky and just steps from the famous Zicatela beach, a great base if you want to spend most of the day in and out of the water. Rasta, the owner, is moving on to other ventures soon, which is sad, but he created a carefree little hub for like-minded explorers. Our floor's shower was delightful and much needed in the heat. The bedroom had character, and although the mattress was old and very springy, we got used to it. The ceiling fan worked wonders and was just as necessary.

The price was good and the beds were comfy, but the rooms are very basic and the place is pretty dirty, especially the bathrooms. The woman said she'd give us our change because she didn't have any on her, but never did. I messaged them on Instagram and got no reply. The vibe wasn't friendly at all. Glad we only stayed one night.

I enjoyed the views and beach access, and the volunteers were awesome, mostly kind and nice. You can hang out each night over beers, mezcal, and some bud. The place has a fraternity-house-meets-the-beach feel, and people around PE know it as kind of the weed hotel. I'm almost 50, active, and looking for adventure, but I know I'm not really the hostal's demographic. If I were 20 again, I'd hang out here. Don't come expecting a clean, well put-together hostal with lots of amenities. I'd suggest moving the parties from the first floor to the third, so the kitchen stays cleaner and easier to use.

We had a good location by the beach and a nice terrace, and this might suit someone who REALLY loves weed. The rest of our stay was awful. We booked a private room for two through HostelWorld and had paid the down-payment, but when we arrived tired in the evening, we were told our arrival was expected but the booking had been cancelled. We hadn't been notified at all. When we asked for help because everything else was booked or unaffordable, the manager, Rasta, interrupted, yelled, and swore at us on the phone. He said he could only give us names of other hostels, all booked out, and claimed he hadn't received our booking or known we were coming. We knew that wasn't true. When we said we'd need to record the rest of the conversation or have it in writing for our claim with HostelWorld, his tone changed completely. He then offered the volunteer room, with four beds and two volunteers sleeping there, and still expected cash payment. He said two volunteers would have to be kicked out, which made us feel bad, but we had no other option and agreed. The room had no air conditioning or window and was in very bad condition. The bathrooms were terrible: two toilets total, one constantly clogged, and two showers, one basically public. We later learned he hadn't kicked anyone out. One volunteer is in a relationship with him and sleeps at his place, while the other doesn't sleep there either. I still don't know why he lied about it. Throughout the stay, people at the hostel and Rasta kept pressuring us to write him a good Google review. They also offered us weed several times, then brought up the review again, so I wouldn't trust the good reviews. It seemed like he'd do anything for one except provide good service. The whole atmosphere felt forced and kind of culty. Everyone seemed to help cover up Rasta's many lies, and they all knew him and only had good things to say in a way that didn't feel sincere. It was strange that nobody seemed honest or had a strictly professional relationship there, even the people who worked there.

For a memorable stay in Puerto Escondido, Pipeline Hostel is a great choice. The location is amazing, the views are stunning, and it's really good value. The volunteers make the place feel like home, with a super chill vibe, helpful tips, and great energy. Highly recommend :)
