Osa Mariposa

The public toilets were clean and the atmosphere was relaxed, but there were plenty of reasons I wouldn’t recommend staying here. Our room was dirty, with lots of insects and bugs, and the Wi-Fi was often unusable or very slow. The staff weren’t very helpful either. The restaurant interior felt creepy, with all the skulls, and you could smell weed most of the time. Maybe that suits people who smoke it.

Carmen and erick keep the place clean, and they’re always smiling and up for a good talk. The rooms have good beds, somewhere to put your clothes, and everything felt clean and new. The kitchen is great and the price is fair. charley, the American owner, welcomes you with a lot of love and respect, and the employees help keep the place in good shape. For a stay in puerto escondido, this is the spot. Even one night is great, but watch out, it’s addictive.

Lots of hammocks, great drinks at the bar, and an easygoing crowd make this my favourite hostel in Puerto. Osa Mariposa has a real communal feel, something many hostels don’t manage. They have shared dinners, birthday parties, and movie nights, and all the staff I’ve met have been so laid-back.

It feels like home at this great spot in La Punta, and the owner provides great service. They say you arrive as a foreigner and leave as a friend, and that’s how it felt.
