Hotel Esmeralda Beach Resort

Our spacious two-bedroom condo was well appointed and had a very nice balcony overlooking the pool and sea. We just finished a three-day stay at this new Rocky Point resort, and the experience was only okay. The most upsetting part happened on our second afternoon. A worker broke a glass balcony panel above our unit, sending shards onto our balcony. Thankfully our family was inside, but there could have been injuries if we'd been out there. We told the front desk, yet it took over an hour for anyone to come clean it up, and we picked up most of the glass ourselves. It was very unnerving. Nobody asked if we were okay, checked on us, or apologized. That's unacceptable. The condo was 81 degrees when we checked in, and the HVAC took all day to cool it to a comfortable temperature. Other reviews apparently mention the same issue. The toilet in the primary bathroom also made a horrible noise when flushed, like it might explode. There's ongoing construction, including in the evenings, and the resort is only half built out. They also take a $200 deposit at check-in and require a signature on a document listing charges for missing towels. Ridiculous. For about $300 a night, I should have asked for a partial refund over the dangerous broken glass. They should consider discounted rates while construction continues. We won't be back.

The views, location, and units are incredible. We came in November and again in December. My only complaint is that I wish they'd had the heated pool on.

The location, view, and condo were beautiful, and the staff was attentive and kept everything very clean. Drinks at the bar were a little pricey, around $20.00, about what you'd pay in the US. Still, the privacy made it worth it.

The resort is nice, but it sprawls over a large area, so getting around means a long walk. The elevators aren't air conditioned, which is miserable on the upper floors. It's the last resort in a long line of fancy hotels, making taxi fares prohibitively expensive. I can't say how its prices compare with the others, but with these drawbacks I'd want it to be quite a bit cheaper.
