Hacienda San Angel

It’s a gorgeous historic property, but our stay was disappointing, especially at 500 USD a night. Our Milagro room faced a narrow street and was noisy. On our second night there was shouting and loud karaoke until 3:30 AM. The earplugs in the room make me think that may not be unusual. Six high windows had no curtains or coverings, and sleeping masks were provided too, so it wasn’t a good room for a light sleeper. The property is beautiful, and the restaurant and bar staff were excellent, but it wasn’t the tranquil luxury hotel we wanted to end our Mexican holiday. Our booking through Mrs and Ms Smith included breakfast, yet standard items like eggs and bread cost extra. We’ve never encountered that at a five-star hotel, and at a typical Mexican hotel we’d expect Mexican breakfast dishes, not just a small pastry and fruit. We understand the appeal of a historic building, but basic things were missing: no coffee maker, no plug by my side of the bed to charge my phone, and the Wi-Fi only worked in the bathroom. There’s no parking on site or nearby garages. We found a tight spot on a cobblestone street but didn’t feel comfortable leaving our rental car there. We raised our concerns with reception and got no response. At checkout, nobody even asked how the stay was. We were simply told we still had to pay the service charge and some bar drinks. I’m writing so others can make an informed choice. After the property’s response below, I’m even more disappointed: there was no apology or offer to address the discomfort of a sleepless night, just a defensive reply. It’s good to be clear about what you offer on your own website, but the booking sites you work with need accurate information too.

We had a fantastic stay at this beautiful hotel and will surely return. The staff were incredibly friendly and professional, service was always quick, and there was something interesting to notice in every part of the grounds. Luis deserves a shoutout for making sure we never went hungry or thirsty while relaxing by one of the hotel’s three pools.

I’ve stayed here more than ten times, and every visit leaves me with wonderful memories. The staff are attentive, warm, and genuinely happy to see you. They make you feel like family as soon as you arrive. The atmosphere is peaceful and elegant, but also deeply welcoming. Hacienda San Angel has 12 individually styled suites, with fine linens, handmade soaps, and local chocolates left at turndown. Angel statues around the property add to its serene, almost sacred feel. It’s luxury with soul. The historic hacienda stands in the hills of Old Town Puerto Vallarta, just behind the Church of Our Lady of Guadalupe, on the site of Richard Burton’s former villa. It brings old-world romance together with modern luxury. Puerto Vallarta has a lovely community spirit, part San Francisco, part Austin, part tropical paradise. Hacienda San Angel captures that feeling, and it’s a place I keep falling in love with.

Luis looked after us most of the time, and his kindness, warm smile, and attention to detail made the stay unforgettable. We felt cared for wherever we were, in the room or by the pool. The whole staff went above and beyond, remembering our names and room number and anticipating what we might need. Our spotless room was refreshed twice daily. The beds were made perfectly, fresh towels were ready, flowers appeared on the nightstand, and chocolates were left each evening. Everything was absolutely perfect. I’ve never felt so well taken care of. This hotel has set a new standard for hospitality. I’d return in a heartbeat and can’t recommend it enough.
