We were at the hotel for 18 nights. Our room was a nice size, though it had no view, and the breakfast was very good. The breakfast staff were great, and our housekeeper did a good job when we asked to have the room cleaned, which was only five times. The front desk staff were the least friendly people in the hotel. We passed them more than once a day, and a “Hola” now and then would've been nice. I wasn't looking to make friends. The hotel is close to the very touristy Marina. There's a public beach within walking distance at the end of the runway, and a public bus stop nearby. The pool and hot tub area were clean, and staff restocked the towels. I used the hot tub daily, even though it was never very hot and had flies in it. Sometimes the pool was warmer than the hot tub. We weren't there for the incidents in Puerto Vallarta after the death of El Mencho, so I don't know how the hotel reacted. We were away from the hotel for two nights and it seemed like no one noticed.

I stay at lots of Holiday Inn Expresses, and this one wasn't as nice as the others I've tried. The service was the biggest difference. I guess the American Holiday Inn Expresses have much better staff and service. Most hotels I've stayed at in Mexico were managed better than this one. My stay was disappointing.

For the last night of our honeymoon, Holiday Inn cancelled our reservation without warning, and we'll avoid the brand going forward. We'd booked through booking.com on October 25 for January 9. When we contacted the hotel the day before to confirm our check-in time, they told us the reservation had been cancelled. Booking.com still showed the full confirmation and apparently hadn't been notified, even though check-in was less than 24 hours away. Holiday Inn / IHG then said the hotel was full and offered to book us somewhere else at a higher rate. I'm frankly appalled. We could have shown up at the front desk and been told we had no room. A horrible way to end our honeymoon.

Our room was dirty when we arrived, but we're too exhausted to deal with it and have an early flight. If switching rooms weren't such a hassle, I would've asked. The side tables were filthy with wet cup marks, and two of the three drawer fronts had boogers on them. Really gross. At least the sheets and toilet looked clean, though I'm not sure what else was done. It reeked of bleach at first, then smelled musty and moldy once that faded. The AC works well, but it smells very musty and has dust or mold on the outer cover. I wouldn't stay here again. They were also a little pushy about an “upgrade,” trying to get us to go one block down to the suites. We booked this place because it had better reviews, and we'd just taken a taxi here with all our bags.

The room was spacious and quiet, and the staff were friendly. But the place badly needs maintenance. The water pressure is an issue, and the hot tub still doesn't work, with no jets. The pool is warmer. I had to go down four floors for ice because the sixth-floor machine doesn't work, and the fourth-floor one only gives about 12 cubes. The towels are worn and tattered and need replacing.
