Suites Plaza del Rio - Family Hotel Malecon Centro

We spent seven days here with my 16-year-old daughter and really liked it. It felt very nice and safe, and restaurants, shops, and beaches are all within walking distance.

My family and I had a good time here. I liked the kitchen, the hot water, the clean bathroom, and the big room, plus it’s near a lot of places. The reason I’m not giving five stars is they wouldn’t return our deposit after my baby spilled a little water on a cushion.

The location was amazing, the pool was clean and empty, and the cleaning ladies were attentive and friendly. Still, after two weeks here, I didn’t feel it was worth what we paid, even allowing for high season. Getting the reservation sorted through WhatsApp felt a little unsafe because the website wouldn’t let us book. The elevator broke while we were checking in, so we had to carry our luggage upstairs, though it worked for the rest of the stay. Wearing bracelets for two weeks left us with tan lines in sunny Vallarta. Our unit seemed to have been empty for a while: dust covered everything, there appeared to be toothpaste on the mirror, and there were paint stains around the room. We asked for an iron and had to wait for the person with the key to return. The only one available was useless, with plastic melted onto it. Staff couldn’t help, so we bought one at Woolworth and gave it away on the street at the end of our stay. WiFi dropped about every 30 minutes, and then we couldn’t reconnect for a while. Noise was our biggest issue. The doors were made of single glass pieces “glued together” and wouldn’t close fully, so we heard banging, including what sounded like hammering at 9am, and people walking past. We came to party all night, but still couldn’t sleep late.

We had a spacious lower-level suite with two bedrooms and two bathrooms, and we plan to return. The staff were so friendly and made us feel good about staying there. The location is excellent, right by the Rio Cuale and a big craft market area, and close to the main cathedral, Our Lady of Guadalupe 💓🌍🌈.
