You’re close to everything, so I guess it works as a budget option. But a good night’s sleep is unlikely, if you get much sleep at all. The beds are hard, there are no blackout curtains, music and noise go on all night, and staff were slamming doors at 8 am.

I stayed for a week while waiting for my apartment to be ready. The location puts you right in the middle of the restaurant, club, and shopping zone. The staff were incredibly attentive and nice. My room was older but spacious, with a huge patio. Internet was good, there was plenty of hot water, and it was very clean. It also had a small kitchen.

There’s a 24/7 grocery store with good prices right across from the hotel, which made things easier. The staff were super friendly and helpful, and whenever I needed something, it came quickly. We asked for room cleaning and got it promptly. They also brought shampoo and soap after each cleaning and whenever we requested them. I asked for a hair dryer and got one, and a blanket is available if you ask, since none is in the room by default. The hotel is close to restaurants and bars, and within walking distance of the beach. We could get the fresh breeze each morning. But we had literally no hot water and had to shower cold. There were also too many insects and ants in the room. I think that was due to moisture, not a cleaning issue. Nights could be a little noisy, but we were tired and fell asleep right away. I think Hotel Tropicus is a good choice if you like nightlife, the beach, and lots of restaurant options.

The hotel is cute, well located, and has friendly staff, but I found the stay disappointing. At CAD$67 a night, it didn’t feel worth it. The hard bed, mosquitoes, and noise made it unpleasant to sleep. The sheets were thin, rough, and basic, and there was no duvet or blanket. I got cold at night, but turning off the AC made the room too humid, so I piled towels on myself to try to get comfortable. The pillows were basic too, and anyone who likes thicker or firmer ones may not like them. Room #15 had good natural light in the bedroom and bathrooms, while the living area was dark. The AC worked well, though it took a while to cool the area outside the bedroom, which wasn’t a problem for me. The gaps around the window and balcony door let in noise and mosquitoes. It felt like a door or window was always open, with no soundproofing. Music and drunk people were loud until morning every night of the week. I barely noticed the first night because I was tired, but the second night was unbearable and woke me up. If they fixed the large gaps, it might help keep the sound and mosquitoes out.
