The rooftop restaurant has a spectacular view, and it’s easy to see why people choose it for marriage proposals. Our room was spacious and comfortable, with a sitting nook, a mosaic table, and books about Queretaro in English and Spanish. There was also quirky artwork, two luggage racks, a closet safe, and a mini fridge stocked with complimentary drinks. The beds were comfortable, the TV was large, and the shower had strong pressure, hot water, and toiletries. Juan met our Uber as we arrived, helped with our bags, and offered us water while checking us in. He explained the hotel, let us know we were being upgraded to a full American/Mexican breakfast, and marked sights on the complimentary map. He carried our luggage up the steep stairs and showed us around the room. When we asked where to find a laundromat, the staff kindly offered to wash our clothes and brought them back folded.

Church bells from nearby are part of the charm of staying in this historic area, and many important Mexican sites are an easy walk away. Hotel Aspeytia is a centuries-old building in Querétaro’s historic center, now run as a lovely boutique hotel. Rooms are roomy and each one is different, blending traditional architecture with modern comforts. Only a few have air conditioning, though every room has a ceiling fan, and there’s no elevator. The staff are warm and helpful. If you’re there for a few days, the breakfast person remembers what you like. Meals are served on the rooftop terrace, which has live music several times a week and is a favorite spot for local proposals. Highly recommended.

The staff made me feel right at home, and the accommodations were amazing. I couldn’t have been happier with my stay. Aspeytia is easy to recommend!

A rooftop restaurant in downtown Queretaro is something to see, and this one is a great place to enjoy a meal. The food and service were both very good.

My room was quiet and charming, and I was pleasantly surprised by how nice the stay turned out despite a few small annoyances. Casa Aspeytia is tucked into the narrow streets of Querétaro’s Centro Histórico. A friend suggested it, and I booked by phone because I prefer going directly through the hotel. My reservation was ready when I arrived. After paying, I was shown to the room and offered mint lemon water, a thoughtful welcome. I had the one-bedroom king suite near the stairs. It had no outside window, which made it feel private, and the room was cozy and fresh, just right for a couple of nights. A separate living area had a sofa large enough to use as a makeshift bed, plus a safe, ironing board, and fridge. The sodas and water in the fridge were complimentary. The king bed was comfortable, and having both a fan and air conditioning helped in a room without outdoor ventilation. The bathroom came with a hairdryer, shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. The pillows were firmer than I like, so I didn’t sleep especially well. There was only a curtain between the living room and bedroom, and it was needed because the living room curtains didn’t keep all the lobby light out. One night the fan light switched on at 3 a.m. and woke me. I couldn’t work out how to turn off the light without also stopping the fan, but figured it out after about five minutes. The TV took some puzzling out too, though I eventually got the satellite channels working. The shower temperature kept climbing even when I left the faucet alone. Still, the room itself was comfortable and quiet. Breakfast is included from 8 a.m. to noon. That start time feels late if you’re traveling for business, but when I asked for a boxed breakfast one day, they were happy to prepare one, which I really appreciated. The regular meal was fine but nothing special. I had eggs with refried beans, and they were just okay. Tips are welcome even though breakfast is free, and the server could take one on a card terminal, though I’d bring cash next time. Breakfast is served at the rooftop bar and restaurant, where there’s live music at night.
