De Alamo hostel

The property is beautiful, and a few times the host brought me a plate when dinner was cooked in the kitchen. But I didn’t feel comfortable there. I’d booked a dorm room, then was taken to an upgrade I hadn’t wanted. The host insisted it was a great deal, and though I didn’t have the money, I went along with it using what I had. My room had no chair, just the bed to sit on, until the host brought one a couple of days later. It felt like being a guest in someone’s backyard home, not a hostel or hotel. There were several big dogs roaming around, including pit bulls, and the host warned me that some weren’t very nice, especially when he let them out. If you’re fine around several huge dogs off leash, you may like it. I wasn’t comfortable walking around the property, and the dogs followed me into the small kitchen, where they seemed to think I’d feed them. There was no microwave. I made coffee and eggs quickly so I could get back to my room. The host gave me lots of unsolicited advice, told me what to talk about, and asked personal questions about my plans and medical history. On the day I was leaving, he demanded more money for the upgrade, even though I’d already said I couldn’t afford it and would have been happy to return to the dorm I’d reserved. He argued that he’d given me VIP treatment, then left, apparently angry. Nobody said goodbye or was around when I left. I wouldn’t return.
