The grounds and oceanfront setting were the highlight. Everything is decorated to match the theme, the atmosphere is lovely, and the pool is clean, relaxing, deep, and has spectacular ocean views. Staff around the bar were friendly and attentive, and the shrimp dishes we tried were delicious and generous. I thought the room looked great for $3500MXN ($215) a night. Our stay was July 9 to July 10, 2025, booked through Expedia.com. At check-in, the very welcoming staff member said we couldn't pay by card. We needed to leave at 05:00 because my brother-in-law was in the hospital, so she said she'd confirm with the owner. She showed us to the cabin, and I turned on the AC before we went to the beach, pool, and restaurant. The problems piled up after we came back. The power had been turned off by mistake, leaving the room hot and humid. In heavy rain, water poured through the bathroom ceiling above the toilet and dripped from light fixtures that were still on. We wondered if there was a shock risk, though we were okay. Neither of us got hot water in the shower. The outlets by the bed and front door didn't work, though our power bank helped. The AC never cooled the room. The upstairs unit showed an overload alarm that wouldn't reset, and the one over the bed displayed EH-06. Almost no air came out, so we were very hot all night. There was no toilet paper, either. I went through the pouring rain to get a roll from the public bathroom, got muddy, and had to take another cold shower. At 05:00 we packed up and went to check out and pay, but the doors were locked. We could see a staff member asleep on the sofa. After knocking for ten minutes without waking them, we left. I drove my wife to the hospital in Tepic for her brother, then drove back to settle the bill. The man at the desk said card payment was fine after all. We could pay for dinner by card, so the room payment confusion was frustrating. This is one of the most beautiful places I've stayed, with plenty going for it, but at $3500MXN a night the price outweighs the positives for me.

Our reservation was cancelled even though we'd booked three months ahead. The event service was awful, the food made us sick, and the wedding venue was so rocky it was hard to get through. I wouldn't recommend staying here. There are plenty of other hotels in the area with much better service.

We won't be coming back to Chiringuito de Palo. I hope people considering a stay here take this into account. We first stayed in 2023 and loved it, but returning for a family vacation in August 2026 turned into a bad experience from the reservation onward. They had double-booked our room and tried to cancel us. Ms. Kiara said it was her mistake and offered us a different room for one night, which we accepted. After getting settled again, we asked if pets were allowed. Ms. Kiara said yes, for $200 per day per pet, and we agreed. One morning my husband found our pet chewing on something that turned out to be rat poison. We went to complain right away. They told us it was spoon poison and not aggressive, then turned away and left us talking to ourselves. The place has gone downhill a lot. It used to be beautiful, and they fumigated every morning to keep mosquitoes away during our stay. They don't do that now. No one seems able to help with anything. If you ask for the manager, apparently there isn't one, just waiters and cooks. Maybe this review won't help, but that's what happened to us.

We spent one night at this small hotel right by the beach. The rooms are cozy and clean, and the pool areas are very nice. Service was good overall, though a few staff members seemed apathetic. The restaurant staff get overwhelmed, and the service suffers. The seafood molcajetes looked good, but the flavor wasn't great. They aren't very strict about the hours in their rules, and they were flexible about letting us have the room before the stated time, which I liked.

I wouldn't stay here, though going for the food might be okay. The food itself is decent, but service can take as long as an hour. Management service is poor. The receptionist is always on her phone instead of helping guests, makes excuses, and doesn't fix anything. Terrible service.
