It already feels like home, and I can’t wait to return! Guests and volunteers are great, and it doesn’t take long to feel like a family. There’s always some event, activity, or outing if you want to explore, but it’s also a perfect place to relax. The rooftop deck is ideal for yoga or a sunset beer. People seem to keep extending their stays. The hostel is right in the best part of San Cristobal, with the market a one minute walk away.

The volunteers were amazing and made my time in San Cristobal special. There’s a great rooftop view, and it’s also a good spot for yoga. The hostel has cheap rates, free coffee until 10, a well equipped kitchen, and several places to hang out. Showers are hot, lockers are in the rooms, and it’s close to the oxxo and market. The beds creak when you turn over at night, and the sheets are a bit too small. Also, these are loud countries, Mexico and Guatemala. There are fireworks almost 24/7, water delivery trucks that sound like 10 ice-cream trucks all at once, occasional barking street dogs, and in a dorm someone is likely to snore. If noise bothers you, don’t visit those countries and then leave bad reviews.

I enjoyed both the quiet time reading on my own and hanging out with others over a drink or doing something together. The vibe among the travelers and staff is really nice, and you can just do your own thing. For the price, this hostel is very good value. Staff are always around with tips for the city and nearby area. Make sure you visit la panaderia Roots!!! The wifi isn’t great if you need to work, though there are several coffee bars in the neighborhood for digital nomads.

Thanks for everything! I felt at home right away and enjoyed my time here so much. People connect with each other, and the team was super open to us. The dorms are clean and quiet, and my bed was comfy, so I slept well. The rooftop view is the best. I’m grateful I found a quiet place there for morning yoga. Gracias!

We came planning to stay just a few days at Iguana and somehow ended up there for three weeks. It has a relaxed, social feel, and people really do make it feel like one big family. We cooked dinner together most nights, played cards, and often had a bonfire in the backyard. Chester, the little doggy, is the sweetest boy. I’ll miss him, so please give him a Pat from me :) We’d absolutely come back to San Cris and stay here again. If you like a chilled but sociable hostel, we 100% recommend it.
