The hotel service itself was solid, with no complaints, and it’s one of the newest and prettiest places in San Cristóbal de las Casas. But the restaurant service was far below standard: the waiter didn’t know the menu, couldn’t answer basic questions, and was so hard to understand that I couldn’t follow what she said. With interiors this good, that’s unacceptable. The neighborhood is also a real concern. I’d only expect these prices if the hotel were right in the center of San Cristóbal. For the same money, I could get a great room in Polanco, one of the expensive districts of Mexico City (CDMX). This is the sort of place where you might bring a very high-level lady, and the surroundings make that choice questionable. The owner might want to replace some staff, especially that waitress, and improve the nearby facades or attract more high-status tenants. The city needs a four-star hotel like this, but without changes, it could sink despite its potential.

The 1,500-peso deposit at check-in already felt unusual for a hotel in this price range. At checkout, the receptionist inspected our room before letting us leave. It came across as deeply impolite, as though we were suspects instead of guests. Breakfast was another problem. We arrived at 8 a.m. on the first day as the only guests, but waited 45 minutes for basic avocado toast and got no apology or explanation. When we finally insisted, we got an arrogant glare, and had to rush out for our scheduled visit. The next morning, although breakfast was advertised from 7 a.m., nobody was there. We were told service only started at 8, too late for travelers leaving early, so we checked out without the breakfast included in our price. We never felt welcome, only uncomfortable and unwanted. The location and design are beautiful, but they were overshadowed by some of the worst service we’ve had at a hotel of this category. It’s disappointing to see such a promising property run with hostile, unprofessional behavior and so little hospitality.

Breakfast at the hotel was really good, and there was plenty to fill you up. We stayed two nights and thought it was totally worth the money. Plaza 79 is beautiful, with rooms and interiors that are really well designed. I’d definitely come back :)

The hotel is about 750 meters from the city center, and getting there on foot is easy. If you don’t enjoy walking, you can go by car. Inside, there’s a lovely library, garden, and lobby. The rooms are comfortable and designed to keep noise from other guests down. The bed is a little firm, but I slept well. It’s a beautiful, luxurious place, and the bathrooms are lovely too.

The staff were incredible, from reception to the waiters, everyone was so attentive. The hotel is lovely for families, and the night view is beautiful. The weather suits the place perfectly, too. The food was delicious. I’d recommend the tuna ceviche, octopus tacos, short rib tacos, and tuna salad, which was 10/10. The French toast at breakfast was delicious as well. It’s a very beautiful, clean, comfortable hotel, with gorgeous spots for photos ✨ Thank you so much ✨
