We stayed five nights, and the room smelled of sewage the whole time. Nothing we tried got rid of it, and the air conditioning never worked. The front desk and management knew about these problems but did nothing to fix them. It got very hot in the room every day, and we had our baby with us. We also only got boiling hot water. To bathe our child, we had to fill the tub in the morning and wait hours for it to cool. Completely unacceptable for a hotel claiming Marriott standards. Do yourself a favor and book somewhere else. San Miguel is a beautiful city, don’t let this place ruin your vacation.

We were charged what seems to have been more than the agreed wedding block rate, which was especially disappointing given the state of the property. I stayed here for a wedding in April 2026, and the whole experience was extremely disappointing. Our room looked unfinished, with debris, incomplete fixtures, and no faucets on the bathtub. Basic things weren’t working properly: the AC was out, the TV had one channel and no volume control, hot water came and went, and water pressure was very low at both the sink and shower. The hotel as a whole didn’t seem ready for guests, with construction, poor maintenance, and infrastructure issues like those other guests described. Breakfast staff were dismissive and sometimes rude, adding to the frustration. They shouldn’t have been taking full occupancy, let alone hosting a wedding while still under construction.

José Luis was a standout. He kindly drove us into Centro in the hotel’s Jeep and knew a lot about local events, restaurants, and venues. We were also pleasantly surprised twice by thoughtful amenities left in our room. The staff throughout the property were warm and attentive, and our room was comfortable, well designed, and carefully appointed. The hotel was very quiet, even though we were told it was nearly sold out. Some areas still looked unfinished, and the rooftop wasn’t open yet, which was a notable downside since rooftop spaces are part of the experience in SMA. The property is outside Centro, about a 10-15 minute drive into town. Uber rides averaged $3-4 USD, and there are several good dining options within walking distance as well as City Market, an excellent grocery store. We stayed five nights on our first visit to San Miguel de Allende and found it comfortable, with strong service, though the unfinished rooftop was a miss for this destination.

We were locked out of our room for nearly three hours on the day of a wedding. Staff couldn’t open the door, so someone had to climb in through our balcony to let us in. The lock needed repairs later that evening while we were out. There was also a sewage smell from the bathtub drain, hot water was inconsistent, and the TV looked installed but didn’t actually work for guests. The property itself is beautiful and the staff were polite, but the overall impression was that Marriott Cleviá San Miguel de Allende opened before its basic operations and quality checks were sorted out. Guests paying premium Marriott rates shouldn’t have to deal with broken locks, plumbing problems, or incomplete room setups. This was frustrating from start to finish and well below expectations for a new Marriott. San Miguel de Allende is beautiful, but this hotel made for a very disappointing stay. I wouldn’t recommend staying or hosting a large event here.
