The shower was the best part, and the hotel itself was good. The kitchen was good too, and the dorm beds were fine. A strange guy stayed in my dorm, but they moved him the next day. I paid for three nights, though, and there’s no refund policy. I asked just four hours after paying on the first day, before there’d even been a shift change, because I wanted to leave the second day. San Miguel felt very boring and overpriced. One artist called it a “gringo sanitarium” 🤣. La Fabrica, a community of artists in an old textile mill complex, is the only thing I can recommend. I couldn’t find a bike rental to get to the archaeological site, since the only bike option was group tours, so I spent my third day reading in cafes. The botanical garden was so-so, and I love gardening. It’s not worth 100p. The city is over 30% more expensive for everyday needs, and the only supermarket is past the bus station, a 30 min walk from the center. Two days max. Queretaro and Guanajuato are both cultural icons. Unless you’re waiting for god to pick you up because you’re very old, San Miguel is nothing.

I liked this quirky little inn, especially the small garden out back. The dorm is nice, and there’s coffee in the morning. Bathrooms are shared, but only one person can use them at a time, so they feel pretty private. I just wish the place were livelier. That’s not the hostel’s fault, though. People don’t seem to mingle much in hostels anymore, sadly.

It’s in a good location and reasonably clean, but I didn’t find the staff very friendly. The dorm I stayed in had mattresses that were paper thin and incredibly worn. You could hear almost everything happening in the hostel from the room, and without mosquito nets, the rooms filled up with mosquitos at night. Not worth what you pay.

The owner works on site and manages the place well. There’s a big grassy backyard, plus an open-air kitchen and a large dining room. The rooms are nicely set up, most have large windows, and the mattresses are comfortable. The hostel is very clean.

The place is very clean, thanks to the hard-working cleaning ladies. The staff are kind and helpful. If you don’t speak Spanish, use Google Translate.
