The balcony door in my junior suite wouldn't lock, and anyone in the hallway could get onto the balcony. Staff first brushed it off as no big deal because I shared the balcony with friends. I'm a woman traveling alone in Mexico, and I wouldn't feel safe sleeping behind a door that doesn't lock anywhere in the world, including at home. They offered a different room with locking doors, but it was a downgrade from the suite. I was willing to move, but they wouldn't refund the price difference. They'd already charged my card in full, so I couldn't do anything about it. I also found I'd been overcharged. My bill was the same as my friend's, even though two extra people stayed in her room and she had to pay extra for them. They only gave us a basic receipt showing the final total, with no itemized charges to check. They took payment in full on arrival. Totally unethical.

The rooms felt very ordinary and were cold, with no heating in December. I felt misled by the five-star rating. One front desk woman was so mean and unhelpful that she nearly spoiled our trip, though another was one of the nicest people I've met. The location is the hotel's strongest point, but SMA is so small that it doesn't matter all that much.

The location is amazing, right beside the Jardin, but there wasn't much else to rave about. The rooms are spacious, though the beds weren't comfortable, and there was no mini fridge. The staff were okay. This felt like an okay hotel, but not worth the price or a five-star rating.

The bed was incredibly comfortable, the room had air conditioning, and the staff were so friendly. We also loved the bar's cocktails, made with fresh lime juice. We didn't try the food, but based on the drinks it would've been good. The bathroom had a couple of problems: the shower head wasn't attached properly to the water feed, so it sprayed the ceiling, and a section of floorboard by the shower had a hole in it, presumably from water damage.

There was a sewage issue being flushed out right in the middle of the restaurant, and rainwater flooded the walkway outside the rooms. The hotel is a few buildings downhill from the central plaza, near Starbucks. The rooms were large, modern and clean, but there was no hot water for showers.
