Hotel Del Portal San Miguel de Allende

I had a very pleasant stay at Hotel Crisol. It’s centrally located, so you can walk to almost all the main attractions, and the rooms were clean, comfortable, and had what I needed for a good rest. The staff were friendly and ready to help with recommendations or anything else we needed. It’s a nice, practical option in a good location that doesn’t cost too much.

We booked two rooms, and neither was a good experience. In one, the TV fell off the wall, damaging our bag and laptop. Staff showed little concern and didn’t even clean up the mess. The other room was in a separate building above a bar, so it was noisy, had no hot water, and there was no maintenance support. Then they tried to take money from our deposit for a “dirty” towel. Unprofessional staff. Wouldn’t recommend.

For $200 a night, this was absolutely not worth it. The hotel looks beautiful, but that’s all it has going for it. The room was wildly overpriced, with no hot water, paper-thin towels that felt like sandpaper, and a tiny bathroom that used space that could have gone to the room. There was no phone to call the front desk, so we had to use WhatsApp over the Wi-Fi, which kept cutting out. Depending on the building, you might have to walk a block to the front desk to download the Wi-Fi scan again. Restaurant noise in the morning and bar noise at night went on until 4 AM. Our room also had none of the decorations shown in the photos, and the marble top was missing from the nightstand, leaving everything exposed. We had to call to point out that the whole top was gone. Horrible stay!

The views over the stunning centro were breathtaking, especially when the city lights came on in the evening. Hotel Crisol was beautifully clean, and the customer service felt warm and attentive. It was a perfect place to relax, feel cared for, and soak up San Miguel’s romance. Highly recommend for a memorable stay.
