Hotel Hacienda Don Mario

The place seemed nice at first, but we sometimes had no water and there was no hot water. After two nights I had more than a hundred bed bug bites. I wouldn’t recommend staying here, and I’m going to throw away all my belongings before I go home because of the bugs.

There’s barely anywhere to buy food nearby, just a small abarrote store with chips and cookies, so bring your own. The rooms have kitchenettes and fridges. I stayed one night in this nearly deserted little town, and the hotel itself was nice, with large rooms, a TV, A/C, a big bathroom with hot water, and a lovely patio. Still, they didn’t seem very interested in their guests.

We’d had lunch here a few years earlier and were glad to come back and stay. The town is beautiful, and the hotel’s outdoor spaces feel romantic. Our room had comfortable beds and modern conveniences, including a kitchen with a coffee maker, grounds, sugar, and creamer. We got there early enough to be offered two dinner choices. We picked the chicken stew, which was tasty and unexpectedly much like the famous Chicken Marbella from the Silver Palate cookbook. Keep in mind the restaurant closes early. Bring food if you can, and consider getting a room with a kitchen. They said the restaurant would be open, and it was, but it closed very early and the menu was extremely limited. The food was hearty and good, though. It’s a nice little hotel in a beautiful town, with clean, comfortable, simple rooms and AC.
