Casa Calido

The worst budget stay we've had anywhere. The staff were rude and incompetent, and didn't do anything to fix their mistake. They pretty much told us to get lost. They locked our bags in the wrong room and left for the night, so we had no bags or phone charger to contact them. Our dive gear stayed locked up until they showed up at 10:00 am, and we missed our morning excursion. On top of that, the room had no toilet seat, moldy walls, and a damp, musty smell. There was no effort to make things right. They only took cash, no card payments. With the lack of maintenance and upkeep, I'm pretty sure they're pocketing whatever cash they get. If you're the owner of this “hotel,” check on the property and get new staff. Stay away!

Casa Calido was quick to respond when we asked about a room after arriving on the island, and the price seemed fair for that time of year. I've found some of the reviews very harsh. The room itself was clean and quite spacious, with comfortable beds, though the pillows could be better. There was hot water, soft towels, and great wifi. The lively part of San Miguel is a couple of minutes away.

Ismael and Sebastian were both kind and helpful. Ismael booked us a snorkel tour, and Sebastian marked places to see on the island on a map. The building felt secure, and visitors aren't allowed inside. The location is fantastic, walking distance to both the airport and ferry, with decent markets and restaurants within two blocks. Italian food and sushi are only half a block away, and Oxxo is two blocks away. Our private room had a double and a single bed and its own bathroom. For the money, it was spacious and clean, though simple. The shower had great pressure and nice hot water. We weren't planning to spend much time at the hotel, so we booked an inexpensive room and were pleased. There's no microwave or coffee maker at the hostel. We're very happy with our stay so far and would stay again.

The staff were very kind and gave us tips on what to do and where to eat on the island. You can rent towels for 20 pesos, and arrange a scooter or other transport at the office. It's fairly central, so most of the city is walkable. The rooms are simple, clean, and spacious, with a basic bathroom. The light could be brighter. The shower sink looked like it might break and fall, though it still worked.
