Hotel caribe

We had a really enjoyable stay at hotel caribe. It's great for families, with spacious, clean rooms and a lovely pool for hot days. The location was excellent. There was a lot of street noise at night, which I imagine is true anywhere in the center, but we slept fine. We'd definitely come back.

We spent four nights here and had a good stay. The staff were friendly, and the pool and grounds were nice. Our spacious twin double room had air conditioning, a fridge, TV, wardrobe and storage space, a dresser, and a bathroom. A good hotel for the price.

The location is the main reason to stay here. We could easily walk to the main strip, and the little courtyard and pool were cute. The receptionist was nice and let us look at available rooms after we complained that our bathroom door wouldn't close. We were even told we could switch to another room, but they all turned out to be identical, so an upgrade didn't seem worthwhile. The rooms were very basic and a bit run-down, and the fridge advertised for the hotel wasn't in any of them. Our air conditioning didn't work, so we sweated through the night. From our stays in Playa del Carmen and the US, a Super 8 motel seems better quality and less expensive. We paid $46 with tax and other charges, which felt overpriced. I'd have been happy to pay $20, though I don't have much to compare it with on the island. It's okay for a night if you're mostly sleeping there and want to be close to the main strip, but make sure the air conditioning works.

For a three-star place, it met my expectations well enough for four stars. The bed was comfortable, the room was clean, and the pool area was great. Staff were friendly and helpful, though not everyone speaks fluent English, so a little Spanish comes in handy. Our air conditioner worked well, and the small fridge kept drinks and leftovers cool. Parking was plentiful and secure, the price was very affordable, and it was a pleasant walk to the malecon and not far from some really good restaurants. The water was unpredictable: sometimes there was hardly any pressure or no hot water, and at other times it was scalding. Our room was fairly large, but there was no chest of drawers, so we lived out of our suitcases. There was a rail for hanging clothes, which worked well for our scuba gear but left little space for everyday clothes. The Wi-Fi was spotty, though it usually worked. If you don't arrive with high expectations, it's a good place to rest your head at night.
