Fiesta Inn Monterrey Valle

Reposting my review. Angel was especially great, and I noticed how carefully he looked after both the guests and the hotel. The service was outstanding. The place is clean, well located, and fairly priced.

The buffet isn’t part of the room price and costs 350 pesos per person. Please skip it, it gave us diarrhoea for 3 days. Renovation work also starts with drilling at 8am, which is ridiculous for a hotel. Valle’s website had a small warning, but I didn’t see one when booking through Fiesta Inn’s main site or Booking.com. Charging $150 per night and waking guests with drilling at 8am is disgraceful. I asked reception to clean the room after finding hair in the bed, dust everywhere, hand marks on the window, mold in the bathroom, stains by the sink, and writing on the mirrors. The paint was peeling off the ceiling, and the leaking shower had been “fixed” with tape, without success. The receptionist was kind and understood when I showed the pictures, but after the room was “cleaned” again, only the beds had been remade and nothing else changed. When I first came in, it was obvious this was a very basic hotel, the sort I’d expect to cost no more than $50 a night. If the rooms had been clean, the drilling hadn’t started at 8am, and the food had been hygienic, that price might have made sense. At $150, it feels like a huge overcharge.

We were there for exactly 7 days. The location is excellent, very central to downtown, and the gym runs from 6am to 10pm. There’s also a restaurant and buffet open from 6am to 10:20pm. Our family of 4 had to call for extra towels on 4 of the 7 days. There was just one hook to hang them on. The towels looked old, stained, rough, and ragged. The sheets were all white and looked worn, and the pillows were hard as rocks. Dust had settled on the lamps, and the room was never swept, mopped, or cleaned during our stay. The housekeepers need intensive training on how to clean when guests are out. The room was a decent size, but the beds were full size, not queen. The bathroom layout didn’t work well, there was no window or exhaust fan, and the shower glass door wouldn’t stay shut. The phone only worked on speaker. The hotel felt old and very dated, with dirty white walls in the room. There were only 3 electrical outlets in our room.

I had a bad experience with Diana at reception. She was rude and unprofessional, and her customer service was poor. I hope management does a better job hiring people who understand how to treat guests well.
