Hotel Amberes

I liked having until noon to check out, and the late checkout I asked for made the stay a bit easier. The room was a decent size for one night, and the AC worked well. It was a little musty, maybe because the AC had been off until we turned it on. Wi-Fi was available, but the room felt dated and the bed wasn't great for my back. For a central hotel, it wasn't what I expected, and I wouldn't stay again. Breakfast was the worst part. We went before checkout, a party of three, and waited nearly an hour for hotcakes, juice, chilaquiles and coffee. The waiter was quick and attentive, and the restaurant wasn't busy. Most of the four tables were choosing the buffet. Only when we were upset and getting ready to leave did the server apologize and say they'd check on our order. Then all the waiters came over to apologize, and someone offered juice or bread on the house. By then I just wanted to go, but my daughter was really hungry, so I kept telling myself, “ya mero, ya mero,” almost there. It left a bad taste. I'm disappointed and wouldn't go back.

A great price for a clean place with large rooms in an excellent location.

The hotel is across from the park, and the windows make the rooms feel airy with their open view. Staff are enthusiastic, and the room was generally quite clean. The bathroom was a little dark, and the shower water flowed strangely.

The price is the hotel's one good point, so you get what you pay for. We were on the first floor and it was noisy at night. Try to get a room higher up, though the central location comes with that tradeoff. The beds were hard and the shower nozzle was broken. We asked the front desk for extra towels and toilet paper several times, but they kept forgetting. They only listened when I asked to speak with the manager. If good service or a quiet stay matters to you, I'd avoid this place.
