Casablanca Sayulita Hotel

We had a spacious bathroom and two outdoor terraces, and the grounds, pool, and service were wonderful. Our unit was an efficiency with a small fridge, two burners, and a coffee pot, but no microwave or toaster. There was also a poor selection of kitchen utensils. It was a nice place to stay, but some of the living and kitchen areas are barely adequate. Just plan to eat out!

We loved Casablanca last year, especially the location and the welcoming, friendly staff, but this visit was completely different. Our bed was terribly uncomfortable, the kitchen was dirty, the fridge top was thick with grime, and bugs kept crawling across the counters. For the price, I expect a clean, comfortable room and friendly people, so I’m afraid we’ll look for somewhere else next time. We’d emailed and called ahead to ask about early check-in because our previous hotel’s checkout was at 11am, but nobody answered either message. We arrived around 1:30pm and were told we couldn’t get in until 3:00. We left and came back a few minutes before then, but the room still wasn’t ready for another half hour. No one was friendly or welcoming.

We really enjoyed the pool, beach, and relaxing on the veranda. The location is fantastic for beach walks and restaurants facing the water, and the hotel staff were always friendly and tried to help when we asked. We stayed six nights with another couple in the Penthouse, and it looked just like the pictures. We were blown away by its beauty when we first walked in, but for the price, the quality was disappointing. The bathrooms were poorly lit, and the upstairs beds were terribly hard. The water went out during parts of 3 of our 6 days. It would come back within a couple of hours, but having it suddenly stop while showering was frustrating, and we kept wondering when it would happen again. The freezer was broken when we arrived. Maintenance tried to fix it, but the refrigerator then worked worse and was cool rather than cold. They brought a small fridge for the counter, but it barely held any ice. We could get ice at the front of the property, though making repeated trips for tiny amounts that fit in the little freezer was very inconvenient. It would have helped to have a sign asking guests not to leave things on the beach chairs for hours. We saw that happen every day. If we wanted a chair, we had to get one from the extra pile ourselves, which meant we never had a beach umbrella.

The staff were exceptional. Bring pesos if you’re visiting from outside Mexico, though, since the ATMs often run out. The location is just right, close to town and right on a less busy stretch of beach. Thank you all :)
