The river and grounds are beautiful, and the staff at the restaurant were lovely and helpful. The included breakfast was delicious, though 8:30 a.m. felt late, and I wished they had non-dairy milk. The restaurant shuts at 4:30 p.m.; there is a small snack spot open a little longer with fried food, tortas, and sweets. I’d bring my own drinks, since I also wished they served cocktails. Front desk service was just neutral, and I had to ask every question to get information. The pool paint is peeling and makes it look dirty. Getting there means driving about ten minutes from town on a muddy dirt road. After rain, I doubt a regular sedan would make it through without getting stuck, so a crossover or SUV is a better choice. The property itself is attractive and the grounds are well cared for. We booked a Standard Room, but I wouldn’t choose it again. At $130 USD a night, it felt far too expensive for a room that seemed either mid-renovation or unfinished. The furniture was old, there were gaps in the bathroom, and the grout looked as though someone had tried to cover mold. The room was cramped, very dim, and had no window, so you have to leave the door open for natural ventilation. The walls had handprints and other stains, and there was nowhere to hang towels. A few hangers, better shelves, and a foldable clothes dryer would help a lot. There’s no TV either. I’m not especially picky, but I expected more for the price.

We won’t be returning to Cabaña Aventura. The photos online gave us a very different impression from the actual property, which seemed poorly cared for throughout. Even the vending machine was empty, benches were covered with leaves and bird droppings, and beer cans were left on tables without anyone cleaning them up or enforcing rules. Other guests played loud music late into the night, so it wasn’t a peaceful place to enjoy the jungle. The access road is muddy and unpaved, around a 15-minute drive from the main road. We got stuck trying to reach the hotel, and a Jeep or similar vehicle seems necessary. The signs pointing the way were broken or so faded they were barely readable. Our room was dark, small, and musty, with stained walls and very thin walls that let us hear every word and movement from the neighbors. There was mold, with mushrooms growing on the walls (see photo). At the snack stand, cockroaches crawled around the tables and near the feet of guests and employees, right by the food preparation area. Staff did nothing about it. The restaurant closes at 4:30 PM, and there are no other nearby places to eat because the hotel is out in the jungle. There’s a small stand with French fries, but when we asked for salt, we were told to get it ourselves. Nothing is brought to the table, and staff seemed more interested in their phones than helping. When we arrived, they appeared uninterested too, answering questions with eye rolls and dismissive attitudes. For what it costs, this hotel is outrageously expensive compared with other places in the area. I can’t understand how it still gets guests. We were extremely disappointed and would strongly advise others to choose somewhere else.

Our last stay was horrible, and it will be our last visit. We had to spend an extra 2500 pesos on doctors because the beds were full of bed bugs. I can’t post pictures here, but it was really awful. This used to be a very good place to stay, but they seem to take the location for granted and have stopped maintaining it. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone.

The food was soooo good, and the rooms are simple but having AC is great. It takes about 30 minutes to walk up the mountain to the waterfalls, so wear good shoes. I recommend it, our family had so much fun.

The location is amazing, with a clean, gorgeous river, and I’d go back for that. I wouldn’t stay at this hotel again, though. We were in the Cabañas Aventuras on the second floor, and the whole floor wobbles when you walk across it. You can see through the gaps down below. The place is rustic in a bad way, the bathrooms need a lot of work, and the beds are hard as a rock. Camping might be a better choice, but the outdoor toilets and showers are disgusting and smell horrible. I used them once and almost threw up.
