Hotel Colonial

We couldn't sleep all night, right through to 5 in the morning, because dogs outside kept barking continuously. I've never had anything like that happen, and I was really disappointed. The internet was very weak too. The hotel is far up on a hill, with no restaurants within reach. Absolutely avoid it.

The parking area is very spacious, and you can use public transportation that passes right outside. Getting up to the hotel means going uphill over Taxco's cobblestone streets, so a car or truck suited to steep, rough roads is useful. Don Carlos treated us very warmly. Our top-floor room's bathroom smelled strongly of sewage, so we kept the door shut to reduce the odor. The pool water didn't look very clean. All in all, it’s a good place to stay.

There's a pool and plenty of parking at this quiet hotel in southern Taxco, in the Zacazontla neighborhood. The turnoff is off the Taxco-Iguala highway and is easy to find. With the Hoja de Plata restaurant now there, you can have a peaceful breakfast, and they serve a buffet on Sundays.
