Hacienda Maria Elena Yucatán

We picked this place for a visit to Uxmal, and the pool and restaurant sounded appealing. The grounds, pool and dining space are lovely, and the rooms are plain but perfectly adequate. The receptionist was charming, and Geovani was good too. The rest of the staff seemed undertrained, rather than anything else. The menu looks extensive and tempting, but most of what we ate was awful. The pancakes at breakfast were the exception. Breakfast itself was burnt and inedible, the burgers were cheap and unpleasant, and the “pizza” was just odd. They really need a chef. After Uxmal we hoped to cool off in the pool. We’d picked up towels, but a big group of teenagers arrived for what seemed to be a birthday party, so we turned back. The receptionist explained they’d leave by 4, though it was only noon. They ended up taking over both the pool and dining room, with pop music blaring. Our quiet afternoon was lost. I’m sorry, but I can’t recommend staying here.

The staff were really attentive, and the restaurant was tasty and good value. They made a nice effort for Valentine's Day, too. Our room was lovely, and I think we may even have been given a family suite upgrade. The grounds are beautiful, and Uxmal is easy to visit from here. I’d recommend it.

The restaurant was a pleasant surprise. With such a big, varied menu, we didn't expect the food to be so fresh and well made. The breakfast was simple, but tasted great, and we had an amazing margarita 🍹. This was one of our favorite stays in Mexico. It’s a beautiful spot in the middle of nowhere, so you’ll probably stop here while traveling through.

We ended up staying another night. Uxmal and some great cenotes are close by car, and the place is well maintained, including the tennis court. The pool was being cleaned while we were there. Our room was clean and had a hammock, which made it easy to relax. The restaurant food was decent too.
