Hotel Jatay

We ended up leaving for a much better hotel because the stay was so bad. At night, loud dance music from the street businesses carried into the room until the middle of the night, even with the window shut. Some rooms have only a hallway view, with no view outside, so ask about the room before booking. The room and hall carpets were dirty and uneven, as if the plywood underneath was rotting. The floors on the stairs were so uneven we nearly fell, and the slow elevator didn't inspire confidence in the building's safety. The lobby and exterior looked clean, but the rest felt run down. Sheets, blankets, and towels were discolored and worn. The bathroom mirror and showerhead had corrosion and rust. There was no mini fridge or microwave, the parking garage was tiny and seemed short on spaces except in the slowest season, and the windows were small. We paid extra for an ocean view, but could only see the water by standing right in front of a window that was both small and high up. Even the couples massage and facials, which we'd paid extra for at the highest level, were awful. The staff rushed through them and did poor work. Free drinks were included, but instead of giving us a ticket, someone had to walk us to the restaurant and introduce us as massage clients. The restaurant staff seemed confused and were unfriendly and rude. On a Sunday night, construction in the next room kept banging on the walls. We called the lobby, which said they'd take care of it, but the noise continued. When we went next door, a handyman said he'd finish in 10 minutes. Twenty minutes later it was still going. The lobby then said he had to finish and we'd have to put up with it. The hotel was in a slow season and not full, so they could have waited until a weekday to do repairs.
