Ananya I.
The terrace view of cerro cabezon was wonderful early in the morning. Later in the day, clouds and fog covered it. The hotel is also just one street from the pretty zocalo. Those were the highlights for me. We paid 1395 mxn a night, without breakfast, for a double suite with two matrimonial beds and a private terrace over Easter weekend. I booked that room directly with the hotel and paid half by bank transfer. We were traveling with a child, and I’d have preferred a king plus single, but that setup wasn’t available. The room felt small for the price, and the bathroom was even tinier. Two adults fit quite tightly in a matrimonial bed. Cold was a real issue. Insulation was almost nonexistent, with drafts coming through gaps around the doors and windows. April was already cold, so I can only imagine winter. Bring a small space heater if you can, and indoor slippers, since the floor is ice cold. They provided heavy blankets, but they were layered and kept slipping off, so we had to adjust them during the night. There was also barking and howling from stray dogs at night, plus an occasional moo from a cow and a rooster starting at 4 am. Not great for light sleepers. The shower was okay and the hot water adequate, but you’ll need to bring your own hair dryer. Wi-Fi was erratic, sometimes good enough for streaming on some devices, but most of the time reception was nearly nonexistent on most devices. Telcel postpaid 4G worked well in the area. The rooms sit along a hillside, with reception and the restaurant at the top. Getting to our room meant going down dozens of steps. That wasn’t an issue unless you have lots of luggage, which is a strain to carry back up. There’s not much room inside for large bags either, whether to store or open them. Parking is limited. The on-site orchidarium had no orchids in bloom when we visited. We didn’t try the museum or massage services. Locally made chocolates were pricey at 15mxn for each tiny praline. For breakfast I’d suggest El mural restaurant at the zocalo, and for lunch, Cafe colonial. The view was phenomenal, though you can get it for free from the street behind or from the zocalo.

I only tried the restaurant, and had a great time. I’ll come back next time I’m in Tlatlauqui.

There’s a lovely personal touch here. The family has lived in the area for generations and really cares about the community. They also have a cute little museum.

Really friendly service, and the hotel is cozy, clean, and nice. Breakfast was great!

Hotel San Jorge is a lovely place, with an excellent buffet. A great option for a night in Tlatlauquitepec.
