Azucar Tulum

The beach was cleaned every day, and we loved the pool and beach beds. Our room and the hotel were beautiful, new, and spotless. We had a great three-night stay, with lovely service, food, and drinks. Highly recommend!

The staff were wonderful, the facilities immaculate, and the beach clean. The hotel is in the best spot in the hotel zone, close to great beach clubs and restaurants. Noise from nearby venues can get loud at times because of the location, though we mostly noticed it in the common areas and it didn't disturb our sleep.

SCAM. I booked a January stay in early October for $300, a lower rate. A month later, they said my valid credit card had been declined, although my bank had sent no notice and showed no attempted charge. They cancelled the reservation, and now that same room is listed at $900 a night. Avoid this boutique hotel scam.

We chose a bungalow-style suite and loved having a little plunge pool just outside, tucked among greenery. It felt like a private, peaceful hideaway. The regular rooms looked lovely too, with an upscale feel. The pools each have their own appeal. Downstairs, an infinity pool and waterfall look out over the beach. Five floors up, the rooftop pool has wide views that are especially stunning at sunset. The rebuilt property feels fresh and thoughtfully designed, with stone, wood, and lush planting giving it a modern Tulum look. The old Google photos are misleading, since the hotel was torn down and rebuilt in October 2024. We’ve stayed at many places in Tulum over the years, and Azucar Hotel is one of our favorites. Its position in the middle of the beach zone makes it easy to walk to the beach, dining, and nightlife. Casa Banana is right across the way and Kanan is next door, yet the hotel itself stays calm and tucked away. The staff were friendly, polite, and accommodating throughout. We also ate very well: the grilled octopus is worth trying, and the burger was one of the best lunches we had anywhere in Tulum. Whatever you order for breakfast, get a fresh-baked croissant on the side. It was one of the best we’ve ever had. The design, food, service, and location all worked for us. Azucar feels like a hidden gem, and we’ll be back and telling people to stay here.
