Casa Don Diego

The gardens are lush and the rooms are spacious, with a lovely pool to enjoy. Casa Don Diego feels homely and welcoming, and it’s in a quiet area. There are still good restaurants and cafés within walking distance. I found the people there genuinely kind and helpful, and had a very comfortable stay.

Janely at the front desk was so lovely and pointed us toward restaurants nearby. She also showed us the bee hives before we tried the different honeys harvested by one of the owners. With its gorgeous garden and nice pool, the hotel feels like a little oasis amid the bustle of Tulum.

I came for the bees and arrived a little early, but they still made me feel very welcome. Walking in felt almost magical, with a nice patio and pool before you get to the hives. I’d never seen so many tiny, friendly bees together, and they were so calm. I learned a lot about the bees and the traditions, and the explanations were great. They answered all my questions, and I even had some bees on my hand. Wow. Afterward they brought out food and drinks, then gave me plenty of time to myself to taste the honeys. The breakfast was the best we had on our whole Mexico trip, and the service felt personal and helpful. This ended up being our favorite hotel out of the several we stayed at in Quintana Roo and Yucatan. It’s a lovely little boutique place, with beautiful gardens and a relaxing pool, set one block back from Tulum’s main road, so it’s quieter. You’ll need transport or a taxi for easy beach access, but it makes a great base for local trips, including the Tulum or Coba ruins, Sian Ka'an, Akumal, Xel-ha, and the lagoons and cenotes. We absolutely loved our stay and would happily recommend it.
