Daytripper Hostel

Breakfast was nicely put together by the volunteers, and I got the impression the place was being cleaned all the time, which was a big plus. The beds have handy curtains, though the lockers underneath seemed too small for a large backpack, with nowhere else to put one. The outdoor area is very basic, and the kitchen counter is quite high if you're short. It's an okay place.

The location is good, and the owner is genuinely friendly. Still, I’ve never seen a place this dirty. The 16-bed dorm has short beds, and at 1'70 m I didn’t fit. The place smells, and one of the volunteers was smoking and eating in the bed in our shared room. After I left a bad review on Booking, the owner sent me a long email asking me to change it. I guess that might explain the good rating. At least you know what you're walking into.

I’m leaving four stars because I don’t think the place deserves all the harsh reviews, even if it isn’t really a four-star place. Breakfast was very good and changed each day, and the staff made the common areas feel social without pushing the quiet hours too much. The beds were comfortable, with curtains, individual outlets and plenty of storage. It is a bit cramped and could use better upkeep. None of the hostel’s three Wi-Fi networks was very strong, though an open network nearby worked well enough.

Even with a 16-bed room, the setup works well: every bed has a curtain, light, locker and outlet, and the bunks are so sturdy you don’t hear people shifting around. Any late partying stays up on the roof, so people trying to sleep aren’t bothered. The hostel has a rooftop terrace, a great kitchen, friendly staff and a convenient location. Nice, casual atmosphere too.
