Era Hotel & SPA Tulum

The spa was a highlight for me, especially the sauna and cold plunge, and the food and drinks were fresh and well made. The staff were so welcoming and went out of their way to help us feel comfortable. Era has a calm, distinctive feel that fits Tulum, with beautiful design and local touches that make it feel connected to the area while still being luxurious. I had a fantastic stay and can’t wait to come back. Highly recommend!

There was no water at all one night, with no warning, explanation, or apology. The wardrobe was another basic problem, with just two hangers and no decent way to unpack. I wouldn’t return to this hotel. Our ground-floor room faced straight onto the pool, so there was no privacy. The curtains didn’t cover the whole window, and people passing could look right in. We had to use a chair to keep them together just to feel a little more comfortable. Worse, the room smelled strongly of mould the whole time. The smell got into our things, and more than a month after getting home, some clothes and bags still stink. I can do without the clothes, but my very expensive bags are ruined, and nothing I’ve tried has got the smell out. I rarely leave negative reviews, but this stay was beyond disappointing. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone who cares about their belongings, comfort, or basic hospitality.

The room was clean and nicely decorated, and the shower was excellent. I also found a refreshing pool right after arriving, which was just what I needed after being stranded in Tulum for a day and making a last-minute booking. The Argentinian woman at the front desk was really sweet and welcoming. The hotel is just off a road with nice restaurants and shops, plus a good little taco stand for anyone who likes street vendors.

I booked the big room, but it was very cold. The shower was broken, and I’ve never used towels as old and worn as those. I took a quick shower, then left because I couldn’t stay there any longer. They asked me to pay 30 euro, and I paid without a problem.
