Magic Xcacel Tulum

The location is secluded enough to feel peaceful, yet easy to reach, and getting there was stress-free. Once you're there, it feels like you've stepped away from all the noise. Magic Xcacel has a special quality that's almost hard to write about, since it might not stay this peaceful once more people discover it. The accommodations are beautiful and thoughtfully designed to fit the surroundings. Nothing feels excessive, just comfortable and tasteful, with attention to detail. Breakfast was a quiet highlight: good coffee or tea, granola with yogurt, well-seasoned scrambled eggs with toast, and fresh fruit. Simple, fresh, and just right. Even the signage was clear, well placed, and useful, so you don't get lost or have to guess where to go. Small detail, but it says something about how the place is run. Magic Xcacel just works without trying too hard.

We'd reserved for six people months ago. Then, while we were driving over, the manager, Andrea, messaged to say the reservation had been cancelled and there was nothing we could do. She wasn't in the city and ignored our calls and texts, so we couldn't reach her. With every other place full, we were left scrambling to find somewhere at the last minute. Getting a cancellation message only hours before, after booking months ahead, is ridiculous. I can't recommend this place.

We really liked staying here, especially for the price. The new cabanas and resort were clean and comfortable, and breakfast was a highlight, with fresh fruit, granola, omelettes and pancakes. Esther made us feel very welcome. Getting to food and drinks means a 30-minute walk or a five-minute drive, so you’ll need a designated driver if you take the car. That’s common for most places around here, and the beach resorts are pricier and usually not as nice.

The staff were really kind. We arrived after 9pm, and she carried our bags to the room and patiently showed me where everything was and how to use it. The room was clean, with two fans that kept the air moving and cool enough. I’d been worried about mosquitoes, but we didn’t have an issue. The lighting indoors was a little dim at night, and breakfast is included. One tip: don’t rely on Google Maps, which may send you to a dead end. Keep driving a bit farther than it suggests and look for the “Magic Xcacel” sign.
