Otonomus Tulum

We liked the location, with the beach close by, and the service was wonderful. The front desk staff were especially helpful. Our one-bedroom apartment was clean, quiet, and fully equipped. They also rent bikes and scooters.

Kurt made our trip much easier, helping with reservations, transportation, bike rentals, recommendations, and more. He was friendly, available whenever we needed him, and made sure we felt looked after. Otonomus Tulum itself was clean and had a great vibe. We had an amazing stay and will definitely be back.

We checked out after only a few days of our week-long stay because of repeated problems with basic utilities. The shower had weak pressure and slimy floors from the time we arrived. One morning there was no running water, so we used drinking water to get ready. A power outage took out the AC and WiFi during a work call, and we realized our groceries had spoiled. Only one burner worked with the pans because the induction stove needs an external piece. Cleaning was below normal hotel standards. After several failures in just a few days, we couldn't stay. A vacation doesn't work if you can't count on water or power. The front desk said we could get a refund for the unused nights, but after we contacted Expedia, where we booked, the property refused to refund them. Some staff were polite and acknowledged the issues, but that didn't fix the underlying infrastructure. The water and electrical systems need serious investment before the property can reliably host guests. The unit looked nice in the pictures but wasn't comfortable. We appreciated the full kitchen and laundry, even though we couldn't make much use of the space. I can't recommend this place until the utility problems are consistently fixed. We only saw similar reviews after booking, and wish we'd had a chance to cancel first.

This is a hidden gem, super affordable, and a little paradise not far from the hotel zone. Thanks to the establishment for everything they’ve done to make it enjoyable. Don’t listen to the negative reviews below. Every bad review seems to come from lazy people who complain about having to lift a finger.
