Pancho villa Tulum

This is a restaurant, not a hotel, though Google seems to have that mixed up. The white rice was fine, but the breaded shrimp were few and small, soggy, and tasted a bit old, like they weren't fresh. The waiter disappeared after bringing them, and I had trouble finding him when it was time to pay. Then came the old Tulum trick: he showed me an inflated total. I did the basic math in my head and immediately noticed he'd added a 20% tip without asking me. When I requested an itemized bill, he sheepishly admitted it. I told him it's illegal in Mexico to add a tip without disclosing it and getting the customer's permission. He just mumbled, “sorry sorry.” This place feels sketchy, and I'll never return. A few meters south, right next door, Playa Paraiso restaurante is much better: cleaner, better food and prices, and an honest check without tricks. Avoid Pancho Villas. I'd rate it 1 1/2 out of 10.

For a day at the beach, this is the best option around here. They don't require a minimum spend, and the friendly staff let us stay as long as we wanted. Prices were what you'd expect for the area.

We had one of the best days of our trip here. The food and service were amazing. The corn ribs are beyond incredible, definitely try them. Xx
