The view from the penthouse at Playa Canek beachfront was beautiful, but our nearly two weeks there were frustrating. The room was already very hot, and on our final day we were told the AC wouldn't be switched on because of government restrictions, which left us disappointed. The AC had started leaking onto the bed on our first night. That went on for three nights, until I moved the bed myself. Water wasn't run on several occasions, and sometimes the AC wasn't turned on at all. I had to go downstairs or remind staff repeatedly. We also found a dental item from a previous guest on the table, so the unit hadn't been fully cleaned before we arrived. Consistent management or staff on site around the clock would help address problems and keep guests comfortable.

The beach right outside Playa Canek Eco Hotel in Tulum is stunning, and the rooms are cozy. It's a charming little place, with friendly staff and a very welcoming owner. Drinks were good too, and reasonably priced for Tulum. I had a wonderful, relaxing stay and would recommend it.

We booked a room with Playa Canek Beachfront Eco Hotel about 10 months ahead. Around six months ago, I became seriously ill and was medically unfit to travel. We told them as soon as we could and asked to cancel, giving them plenty of time to rebook. We also sent a legal medical certificate signed by our doctor, but they refused. Their replies were slow, and dealing with them showed very little understanding. A really disappointing experience. If you care about communication and customer service, I wouldn't recommend this place.

We cut our time in Tulum short after this stay. The sheets and furniture were dirty and neglected, as the pictures show. A partly see-through curtain was the only thing between our bed and a walkway, so there was no privacy for intimate moments. We couldn't get through to management. No one was at reception, and there was no reply on WhatsApp, Booking, or elsewhere. We ended up handing our keys to the cook. Then someone from the staff showed up at the glass door at 8 pm with the repaired remote while my girlfriend was half naked on the bed.

The owner was so welcoming, and we had a lovely beach day at this quaint hotel. The loungers are incredibly comfortable, with a view that's hard to beat. You can stay overnight or just spend the day here.
