VR Club Tulum Riviera Hotel

We booked a weekend, arrived Saturday April 18, and left April 20. The staff were really nice and attentive during meal hours. I loved the front desk concierge, though I can't remember his name. He was so sweet, made us feel welcome, and explained what our all-inclusive stay covered. The bar manager was upfront about everything, too, and I appreciated his honesty. They didn't pressure us into buying anything or sit through a 90-minute presentation like some hotels do. Our room had an ocean view, and opening the sliding doors to that view was amazing. I saw some workers out early in the morning collecting as much seaweed as they could to keep things looking clean. The food was okay, but I loved the Mexican-themed dinner, 10/10! We also got live mariachis, which I wasn't expecting and really enjoyed. I'd definitely come again.

The beach view was beautiful, and you can walk straight there in a minute. Parking was spacious, the place was spotless, and staff were friendly, professional, and attentive. The free buffet breakfast was pretty good with lots of choices, from American-style breakfast to Mexican chilaquiles, with eggs cooked to order. The bed wasn't very comfortable, and we asked for blankets, but that wasn't a big deal. There was live music on certain nights. We rented a car and it took about 15 minutes to get to Avenida Tulum, with shops, restaurants, pharmacies, and more. Being 10 minutes from Xel-ha was a plus. We had a great stay, hands down the best experience!

The beach, grounds, and facilities are really nice, and I liked the food, which had a bit of everything. My experience was good, but the rooms are very basic and need more comfort and renovation. They seem to put the focus on the hotel's exterior. The rooms were clean enough, but they need extra effort. The beds were bad, and the only warm blanket wasn't on the bed with fresh sheets. Mine was in the wardrobe, and it seemed like it hadn't been washed and was reused from guest to guest. That was really disgusting. I'd give service three stars only because some workers were very friendly. Otherwise, two stars at most.

The beach is beautiful and the location is nice, but the service felt very inattentive. We were told at check-in there were three restaurants: Italian, Mexican, and the regular buffet. The Italian one wasn't available when we tried to go, and the other restaurant was occupied for a private event, even though it had been offered just hours earlier. We were left with the buffet at $900 per person or no food. We were disappointed, especially since our booking was bed and breakfast. It would have helped if Uber Eats delivered there, but the location is so remote no one wants to make the trip. Despite the great beach, I can't recommend it based on our experience.
