Hilton Garden Inn Tuxtla Gutierrez

This was my second stay. The rooms are clean and pleasant, and the staff are kind and helpful. The pool was the letdown, even though it has a nice shallow section for kids and was the main reason we chose the hotel. On the first day the water was cloudy and smelled a little. We rinsed our swimsuits, but they still smelled really bad. Staff seemed to try to fix it the next day by adding a lot of chemicals. A yellow-green film had formed along the edge, and after about an hour and a half we had to leave because my daughter and sister-in-law were getting skin reactions.

A coffee packet for two people in the room, and no coffee in the lobby. The breakfast buffet costs an extra 300 pesos. Not what I expected from the Hilton brand.

My stay was comfortable and convenient, with clean, roomy rooms and friendly, attentive staff. The hotel is on Belisario Domínguez Blvd in Tuxtla’s commercial district, around 10 minutes from downtown and 35 minutes from the airport, with shops and restaurants nearby. It has two outdoor pools, a gym, free parking and Wi-Fi, EV charging, and the family-friendly restaurant “El Jardín.” The rooms felt airy, and the hotel seemed good value. Booking.com gives it an overall 8.9/10, with 9.1 for cleanliness and location and 8.9 for staff. A few guests mentioned that pool towels can take a while, so ask for them early. There’s a lot to like here for either work or a leisure trip.

I’m adding an update to a post I wrote several years ago. I stay here regularly and keep being pleased with the hotel and its service. On my latest visit I arrived early, feeling awful and desperate for sleep. Yasmin at the front desk quickly found me a room and was very helpful. Being sick in a foreign country is no fun, and her kindness made it easier to bear. In my earlier post, I mentioned that Fernando, who speaks excellent English, helped me switch rooms. I’ve also always found the front desk helpful. The pool is great, the AC is strong, the beds are comfortable, and the rooms have a handy mini fridge and microwave. I like working in the small Business Room when I travel. There’s a large shopping center two blocks away. I’m very satisfied and recommend the hotel highly.
