Spanglish Hostel

It’s a quieter place than the hostels nearby, though that may have just been the dates we stayed. The staff were lovely and helped arrange tours of the area for fairly reasonable prices. One thing to know: a bar right next door plays music until somewhere between 1 and 3 a.m. We got earplugs and slept really well. I’d recommend the hostel.

The staff were very nice, but we found the amenities and breakfast disappointing. Showers were cold, there was hardly any furniture, and breakfast was mediocre. We found better value elsewhere in Valladolid. After we complained about the cold showers, our HostelWorld booking was suspiciously removed, leaving us unable to rate the place there. It felt scammy…

The rooms are comfortable and have a large locker, while the common areas are spacious and good for chatting with other travelers. It’s a great spot for location, just a few blocks from the main square and one block from the bus station. The staff are super friendly and helpful with recommendations, and the pool is lovely after a long, hot day walking around.

My boyfriend and I stayed at Spanglish Hostel in November, and I left very disappointed. The clean room was the main positive: it had AC, clean sheets (which we had to put on and take off ourselves), privacy curtains, and the included breakfast of cereal and fruit. You can find most of that at other hostels for about the same price. The shared bathroom and toilet served six other people, so someone showering meant nobody else could use the toilet. It was usually quite dirty, and we had no hot water during our three days. The rest of the hostel wasn’t very clean either, with lots of cockroaches in the kitchen and common area. The staff seemed unfriendly and had no common sense. Renting scooters and bikes through them cost almost twice as much. I understand they take a commission, but people staying at this kind of hostel are usually on a budget and want to pay less, not double. Go outside and you can find much cheaper rentals. They also take a commission on transport for the three-cenote tour, charging 40 percent more than other hostels. I’d never return or recommend it.
