Hotel Mar y Tierra Veracruz

We had a great stay, and the clean, comfortable rooms were a nice part of it. Everything is within walking distance, and the hotel was good value. The staff were friendly and polite throughout. Guillermo helped with our luggage and had great dinner suggestions. Housekeeping was professional, and the front desk receptionists were always nice. On our last night, we had drinks at the bar and heard a wonderful singer. She was amazing.

The hotel looked very nice, which is why we booked. The elevators are a drawback: they're very slow and only fit four people. We also hadn't realized that four-year-olds need swim diapers in the pool, and women have to wear a blouse or special clothing to enter. I hope the meal is enjoyable and the customer service lives up to it, since that will affect whether guests want to return.

The location is great, and the rooftop pool has a lovely view from the top of the building. Our room was clean and spacious, and the restaurant had an inexpensive buffet each morning. My one complaint was the pillows, which were too thin to be comfortable.

The rooftop pool was a plus. Though only four feet deep, it was clean and refreshing. The hot tub doesn't work, though, it's just filled with pool water. The location helped make the hotel better value, so I gave it three stars instead of two. I'm not impressed with Boulder Hotel. It's not very expensive, but I think we got the Gringo price, and you could probably get a better rate by negotiating. I look for places with breakfast included, but the fine print said breakfast costs $6 per person, so another $12 a night, which doesn't make it much of a deal. They also gave us one half-liter bottle of water, then charged 10 pesos for another. The Oxxo across the street had 2-liter-and-a-half bottles for 21 pesos, much better value.
